“Garota de Ipanema” (“The Girl from Ipanema“) is a Brazilian bossa nova and jazz song. It was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes.

Golliwogg’s cake walk belongs to the suite for piano “The children’s corner”.
The piece is a ragtime with its syncopations and banjo-like effects. The dynamic range is quite large and very effective. The B section of this dance is interrupted on several occasions by the love-death leitmotif of Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde, marked avec une grande émotion (with great feeling). Each quotation is followed by banjo imitations.
“The Habanera” is an aria from Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen,” which premiered in 1875. Sung by the title character, Carmen, it is one of the most famous pieces from the opera. The melody is characterized by its catchy rhythm and Spanish flair, reflecting the exoticism and passion of the opera’s setting in Seville, Spain.
