GUITAR QUARTET
“Sento in seno ch’in pioggia di lagrime” (“I feel within a rain of tears”) from Tieteberga and Il Giustino
In this operatic aria, Vivaldi musically depicts rain as a metaphor for tears. Exterior and internal worlds collide in a pointillistic deluge: the dark skies weep as we are submerged in sorrow.
This “Airoso” belongs to the church cantata BWV 156 by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it in Leipzig on 1729. It’s original for orchestra and oboe solo like the opening sinfonia from this cantata.
Guitar 1 (melodic design) features various position changes along the neck of the guitar. Guitar 2 (accompaniment) maintains bass and harmony.
